Job Summary

Assist with the package engineering information gathering process during the definition and design phases of the New Product Development (NPD) process. Assist in the structural design and engineering effort to maximize cost effective design solutions that exceed expectations of internal and external customers. Evaluate product and package concepts/solutions based on engineering, component production and finished goods manufacturing limitations and ensure final packaging specifications are in the company database.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in writing new packaging and material specifications for the primary and secondary product/package components as well as revise existing specifications to ensure data integrity.
  • Help develop product Bill-of-Materials (BOM), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and efficient pallet patterns for manufacturing.
  • Help facilitate activities around the design and development of structural packaging containers (retail and transportation) as well as product merchandising displays. Displays must function in retail environments like mass merchants, home centers and grocery.
  • Review preliminary production test samples and provide feedback to vendors on improvements.
  • Work directly with both domestic and international vendors to improve material performance, reduce material cost and to achieve higher sustainability results.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal creative graphic designers, industrial designers, product engineers, global and regional marketing stakeholders, creative agencies and vendors.
  • Interact and coordinate with assigned manufacturing site or Marketing teams.
  • Participate in package testing according to ISTA standards.
  • Work with team to deliver packaging innovations that drive cost savings, brand retail leadership and production efficiency improvements.

Education and Experience Profile
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, preferably Package Engineering.
  • Minimum of Junior or Senior year standing at the time of the internship.

Work Environment

Working conditions are normal for an office environment with some work in a manufacturing setting.
